Disclosing Trauma in New Relationships Part 2 Single On Purpose

    • Self-Improvement

Scenarios: MC McDonald, Ph.D., and Paul Chamberlain revisit the topic of disclosing trauma in relationships. This time around, discussing actual scenarios like how to disclose on your first dates, the mid-point in a relationship, and the eventual grappling late in a relationship.

With all new promising relationships, the eventual disclosure of past loves and past lives must enter the conversation. But what about past trauma? How do you properly communicate to a new partner about a time that was far from perfect; and changed you irrevocably? And how do you both navigate the new relationship waters when you both possess a defining traumatic experience(s)? Does one defer to the other? Does “little t” trauma lose ground to “Big T” trauma?... Is that even a thing?

MaryCatherine McDonald, Ph.D., is a research professor and life coach who specializes in the psychology and philosophy of trauma. She has been researching, lecturing, and publishing on the neuroscience, psychology, and lived experience of trauma since beginning her Ph.D. research in 2009. She's published two academic books and many research papers and is the creator of a trauma-based curriculum designed to serve previously incarcerated folks and veterans.

Paul Chamberlain is known as the Smart Funny Tortured Coach who has learned, through his own near-fatal challenges, how to find the better part of our darker angels and shine a light on the unique gifts that make us powerful. He is also the creator/host of the popular Smart Funny Tortured podcast which trends in the top 2.5% of Personal Journals on iTunes globally.
