Designed for Pleasure | Exploring Sexuality with Christian-Based Sex Therapist Erin Pritchard The Healing Art of Being You

    • Alternative Health

Season 2  | Episode 10
We’re joined today by the lovely Erin Pritchard, a delightful and incredibly impactful EMDR counselor and Christian-based sex therapist, to discuss how purity culture has affected our views on sexuality in conjunction with the Christian faith. She’ll start us off with a brief explanation of EMDR and how it can be used to foster healing from trauma and stress, and help us to understand the difference of societal interpretation of biblical ideologies and their true theological meaning as intended by God.
God did not create our sexuality on accident, nor as a necessary evil required in order to be fruitful and multiply. We were thoughtfully and beautifully designed, and part of that design is the intention of pleasure and enjoyment through the holy connection that sex was created to be. Unfortunately, however, the world we live in has misused and twisted the word to fulfill a narrative that simplifies the complexities of what that means. Written in an ancient and patriarchal political climate, some interpretations of the Bible’s messages about sex have been used to control and guilt both men and women, and have created damaging stereotypes about desire that demonize something that intended to be a holy representation of intimacy.  Not only has this shaped many unhealthy ways of thinking, it has also sowed seeds of shame and indignified our enjoyment of this connection within our relationships with our partners as well as ourselves. Join us to hear how this messaging has evolved and affected our minds and our marriages, and what you can do to rewrite that thinking pattern and understand the theological intention our creator had for our sexuality.
