I was in a marriage much like you described yours.( going on at the same time too) Alcohol was the devil in our marriage. He was great when he was sober. But the verbal fighting when he was drinking starting tearing my health down- I woke up walking on eggshells everyday. I left for a few months and came back - I wanted to fight for our marriage. He stopped drinking for a a few months but then went back at it and worse than before. I left again and didn’t go back.( finally saw the RED FLAGS)Your song Pride is like you wrote it about me.. although he never was physically abusive to me- he verbally and mentally abused me! Still to this day he can’t swallow his pride- no one except my family see the truth! Even the courts have believed his lies. Our kids are now being exposed to his toxic behavior and out of control drinking. But because he has not gotten a dui and his heavy drinking mostly happened behind closed doors when he has our kids and he drives with the kids drinking …, not being caught is allowing him to continue to do damage
He has not hit rock
Bottom and is in denial- till
That time comes… my life will continue with fear for the safety of our kids

I have been a fan of Sara’s since I was 21 and this hit me deep. I actually wrote Sara a “thank you” letter when I was able to finally leave an unhealthy and irreparable relationship for good, thanking her for the hope her music gave me in that darkness I lived in for so long. I gave her this note during a meet & greet with her on my 25th birthday. This was such a milestone for me in life! Her music helped me in so many ways, cope and move forward when I found myself isolated and hopeless in an abusive relationship at a young age. Thank you for speaking on a topic that is still so taboo and being a role model to girls struggling with these situations that are just not talked about; especially from the perspective of working through it if/when it is appropriate to do so. As a therapist now, I applaud both of your commitment to growth and rebuilding your marriage through this chapter in your lives. I look forward to learning and loving this new move for you in podcasting!

Thank you for this! Your story brought out some emotions in me that I can’t very well put into words. It’s like I could relate in some ways, but I’ve also healed in my own ways and I appreciate the raw honesty of your words, especially since it’s not the statistical way these types of situations usually go. I also appreciate getting a glimpse into your life because you don’t have to share any of this with us. I’ve been a huge fan of yours for forever and I’m excited to see what this podcast has in store.
