Doing it Right! Ep. 98 | CALMING CREATIVITY WITH SMOOTH JAZZ – Carol Albert, Composer
Sitting beside her musically talented grandmother whose right arm had been amputated
due to cancer, Carol played the right-hand piano notes for her. It became obvious Carol
was gifted with the ability to play piano by ear. That influence led her career traveling
around the world playing and singing at concerts with a variety of themes that flowed
from the phases of her life.
Today Carol has been nominated as best artist for Smooth Jazz Network. We talked
about how her top ranked albums have been seeded from the depth of her experiences.
The album Stronger Now is an example – sharing emotions from the loss of her
husband. It’s one of the most listened to albums on Sirius XM.
Carol gave us her wisdom on how she has transitioned and pivoted through life – telling
us it’s time to revisit and redefine who we are! Tune in be inspired with a composer who

Doing it Right! Ep. 97 | LONGEST RUNNING LEADING LADY ON PHANTOM of the OPERA – Sandra Joseph, Keynote Speaker, Author
Sandra Joseph spent a decade in the Broadway production, Phantom of the Opera playing Christine Daa’e. As a keynote speaker she talks about the masks we wear in life and business and how they block us from creating the authentic connections we need to thrive.
Now, here we are in a time when mask-wearing has taken on a whole new meaning. We are asked to cover our faces to take good care of each other. Yet, inwardly, it’s more important than ever to take off our masks to be real with each other.
Listen to Sandra’s celebrity status stories and journey playing Christine on stage six nights a week, more than 1300 times, for 140 million people during her long run on Broadway. She’ll delve into her new message to the world—take off your mask and don’t be afraid to be seen as who you really are. PS – She married THE PHANTOM (Ron Bohmer!) You won’t want to miss this episode.
1 - Persistence comes from your inner knowing. When you truly believe in your dream, it rarely is fulfilled like a bolt out of the blue. Do you feel it? Do you sense it? Then believe IN it. No matter how outrageous. It starts with belief in your dream and in yourself—knowing it will have obstacles. Take
hold and take responsibility to keep moving forward.
2 - Examine your “I could never” beliefs and question them. One of the signs you are onto something meant to be is that it often comes with a feeling that “I could never – that’s too big for me.” Don’t let that message stop you. Reexamine your beliefs and alter them enough to stop that negative voice.
3 - Be willing to get out there unmasked – just be YOU. When you’re ready for a new journey, take whatever time you need to pray, meditate and think reflectively. Once you have the vision – be willing to wait for the right time. Expect to be vulnerable and even scared.
4 - It’s the unmasking of ourselves that matters. When you look at what really matters in your life, you’ll see it’s more about BEING than DOING.

Doing it Right! Ep. 95 | DO YOU HAVE TONGUE FU? – Sam Horn, CEO Intrigue Agency
No, I didn’t misspell this! Tongue Fu is one of Sam Horn’s best-selling books that
amplified her astonishing career as a Communications Expert. She was pursued by
TED Fellows to advise them on how to clearly communicate their projects. NASA hired
Sam to media-train their senior scientists. And LINKEDIN engaged her to design and
deliver the video-training “Preparing for Successful Communication.”
We talked about how she is living her life’s purpose, which was cemented during time
set aside to depart on a cross-country “year by the water” excursion. For four years
Sam interviewed people asking one simple question—Are you happy? If so, why so and
if not why not? Sam capped that experience as a woman on a mission about not waiting
for SOMEDAY. It’s manifested masterfully in her latest book, “Someday is Not a Day in
Tune in and get invaluable tips on how YOU can communicate with anyone anywhere
1 – Don’t let events define you
2 – In times of choppy waters, create & contribute something
3 – In contentious times, remember we have more in common than we do in conflict.
4 – When you’re one of a kind, you have no competition.
5 – If you don’t quite comparing, comparing will cause you to quit.
6 – Bullies don’t want to cooperate. They want to control.
7 – There’s no present like the time.
Doing it Right! Ep. 94 | She Didn’t Know She Was Siri! – Susan Bennett, Voice Actor, Speaker, Voice of Siri
The first voice of SIRI…and Susan Bennett had no idea! Not until a friend told her!
How that happened is intriguing.
Susan was a favored IVR talent (interactive voice recording) who had recorded many
virtual assistant and GPS voices. We talked about how HER voice was selected as the
SIRI persona. You’ll hear the “behind the scenes” of what it takes to do these
recordings. Who knew she would be doing what’s called CONCANTONATION—that’s
fascinating in and of itself!
Don’t miss a minute of her story, which she now shares with audiences around the
world as a keynote speaker.
Susan is a multi-talented woman who began playing piano by ear at age 4. Add to that
her beautiful singing voice that led her to tour with celebrities including Burt Bacharach
and Roy Orbison to name a few. She sang jingles for such clients as Coca Cola,
Georgia Power and Kroger. And when you don the halls at Delta Airline hubs, you’ll
here Susan’s voice steering you to the right gate.
Tune in with ears wide open as Susan talks “Siri language” during our interview.
1 – Follow Your Dreams, but don’t ignore other opportunities. You might fear that
you will be type cast in one niche and not be given opportunities in other areas. Don’t let
that stop you. Doors might open in fabulous new ways you would never have known
2 – Take chances. Try new things. You might be really good at something you don’t
expect. You never know what positive things could happen. Keep trying and taking
advantage of every opportunity. 21:49
3 – Fight the fear! We all have it. Sometimes it helps us not do something incredibly
stupid or dangerous. More often fear can keep us from moving forward because we’re
afraid to fail, or we’re afraid to look stupid. Face those fears and move ahead.
4 - You’re never too old to learn. You could learn early or in your late 60’s and
beyond. Stay excited .22:03
5 – Be realistic. If you’re 5’2” you’re probably not going to be a model. There’s a
place for all of us. We must know ourselves and find our way. Our pluses and minuses.
Building cultures through authentic leadership
Your presence –– your communication — your brand
Some things we can’t change. So, be realistic in your goals—know what you like to do.
If you end up DOING what you LIKE to do, you’ll have struck gold. 26:09
Doing it Right! Ep. 93 | Dr. Kathryn Waldrep, Co- Founder Vernon & Waldrep OB-Gyn Associates
When a woman tries to crack the male dominated medical industry – it’s never easy. Dr. Kathryn Waldrep and her partner Kim Vernon did what any determined, highly accomplished women would do. They started their own practice, went head to head and never looked back. Now they can boast as being the first female OB/GYN practice in Dallas.
As an aside – when Dr. Waldrep entered the studio as my guest, she had been up all night delivering a baby – one of over 6,000 to date. Tune in to hear humorous stories as a working mother of 3, her challenges overcoming COVID restrictions and how she maintains her happiness quotient during stressful situations.
-God has a calling for each of us. Following that calling is when we are most fulfilled 2:00
-Pray before you do! No one is smart enough to effectively counsel others without divine help. 16:44
-Don't expect that you can "have it all." There are always tradeoffs in making wise decisions you feel are best at the moment. 11:54
-Always be willing to give 110%. As a physician, I am expected to be the MOST competent, the MOST caring, and the MOST prepared to serve others. You should approach whatever you do the same. Just do things right to the best of your ability. 9:05
-Happy people are those who serve others. As humans, we all have times when we are downhearted-even depressed. The best medicine is to allow yourself to feel them, but only for a few moments. Then get up and find someone to serve. Making someone happy lifts your spirits and takes the sting out of self-pity. 22:00
