A race of highly advanced, two-legged extraterrestrials has come to Earth and taken over without saying a word. Humans are now their pets. Free spirited Aramintha finds herself trapped, and together with three other traumatized strangers, Jonah, Winsome and Ephraim, she must navigate a world where the unimaginable has become real. For Aramintha, there are two options: escape or death. Domesticated is a big sci-fi story told in small, intense bites.
Domesticated is a science fiction story. Human anatomy/physiology and sensation (pleasure, pain and otherwise) are all elements of Domesticated’s narrative. We explore how an advanced non-human species might deal with the human body and mind.
The Best Laid Plans (Alt: Gang Aft A-gley)
Winsome and Ephraim agree to Aramintha’s getaway plan but in the heat of the moment, they get separated in the Central Room. Gray collapses and has an epic seizure that distracts everyone ⸺ except Blue. Aramintha, Ephraim and Winsome make a break for freedom, but the best laid plans…..
Jonah agrees to Aramintha’s escape plan. She and Winsome make music to pass the time and bring comfort but then Aramintha discovers that Jonah won’t be joining her in the escape after all. Then, in a freakish turn of events, Gray finally reveals to Aramintha what the aliens are really after.
Ephraim is gone for days and comes back refusing to talk. Still, Aramintha tries to get him and Winsome on board with her escape plan. They’re not convinced. The alien Gray is sicker and Aramintha notices there’s something about her, Winsome and Ephraim that makes them stick out in the sea of humanity now.
On Your Feet
Aramintha and Jonah figure out that some of the aliens are sick ⸺ but what does that mean for humans? Aramintha confronts Winsome about getting cozy with the alien Blue, but then she learns the (really) hard way just how connected they are.
Aramintha and Winsome wake up deep into brutal pregnancies. Within days, their third trimesters are upon them. Ephraim tries to comfort them, but Winsome reaches her breaking point.
Aramintha and Winsome are intrigued when the aliens add another human, Ephraim, to their household. He’s still water, running deep; a man scarred by the trauma of the arrival. The women’s intrigue with him is quickly overshadowed when they find out why he’s there.
From start to finish, mesmerizing!
This is the best audiobook that I’ve heard in forever. It wasn’t even a book, it was a play.
