What a load

Listened to the first episode of season two and I have to say, what a load. “We wish her well” doesn’t really ring true when Elizabeth refuses to say what Jen Paulson’s new podcast is called. And it is a lousy rhetorical trick to imply that Elizabeth had to forge on without Jen rather than admitting that she decided to take it and run without Jen. Talking to her the day of recording season 2, episode 1 indicates that Elizabeth had already moved on without Jen but mentions it to imply she behaved like a mature adult and discussed this ahead of time with her former partner, when in fact all the decisions had already been made. Current and future collaborators, be warned.

Gross.

It’s one thing to decide to revamp a project without an original member, but to use the first 5 minutes of a “new season” to diss that original member and their previous involvement is low. The statement from the hosts that they “love” former host Jen Paulson, followed by Elizabeth Ess' refusal to promote Paulson’s new project on *her* podcast was the icing on the cake. Ess ruined all her credibility - and any likability she had left after the first season, which was already pretty slim - in those first few minutes. Donut Friday *might* be her “baby”, but it was Jen’s wit and warmth that made most of us continue to tune in. Ess’ new host sounds like a nice guy, which is good, as a balance of charm is obviously needed to offset Ess’ ungracious and self-congratulatory presence.
