Moses Returns To Egypt | Ep. 050

Moses Returns To Egypt | Ep. 050

Moses set out on the journey back to Egypt, as God instructed him to do. But God sought Moses' life because they hadn't kept the covenant with God - they weren't circumcised. Circumcision was one of the visible signs that God commanded His Old Testament people to do to every male as a reminder that they were God’s people. Did Moses escape God's anger? Who saved him?

Our Bible reading is Exodus 4:18-31.

"But I will harden his heart so he will not let the people go."Exodus 4:21b

    Circumcision

Circumcision did involve the shedding of blood, pain, and a little suffering for males, since it could only to be done to males. It was an action God commanded His people to do in order to be part of His covenant.  Whenever they saw the circumcision, it reminded them they were God’s people. Circumcision in the Old Testament, in the Old Covenant for God’s People, was also a foreshadowing to the shedding of Jesus’ blood on the cross for us!

    Moses Resists God's Call

    Moses Resists God's Call

Moses was struggling to accept what God wanted him to do, which was return to Egypt and set the Israelites free from their slavery. In this conversation with Moses through the burning bush, God used the signs of turning the staff into a snake and Moses’ hand to show Moses his power.

Our Bible reading is Exodus 4:1-17.

“Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.”Exodus 4:12

    Signs from God

God used signs in the Bible for various reasons. Sometimes signs were used to send a message or a warning, or in fulfillment of a promise. Only God Himself chose when He gave signs to His people. In our lives, we shouldn’t “ask” God to give us a “sign” to show us His will for us; His will is revealed through His Word, the Bible!

A Burning Bush: God Calls Moses | Ep. 048

A Burning Bush: God Calls Moses | Ep. 048

God had a plan to save his people, the Israelites, from their slavery in Egypt. He spoke to Moses through a burning bush and told Moses to go back to Egypt. God was sending Moses to bring the people out of Egypt to safety. But Moses said, "Who am I to do this?" Moses was reluctant to do what God told him to do. But God had come down to save His people, through great signs and wonders, and through Moses, to bring them to the promised land.

Our Bible Reading is from Exodus 3:1-15.

God said to Moses, "I am who I AM. Say this to the people of Israel, I AM has sent me to you."Exodus 3:14

    I am who I AM

Moses wanted a name to give to the people, a name of the god who had sent him. God answers: God’s name is YHWH (Yahweh). It's the Hebrew name God gave Himself. In the English translation, the name “Yahweh” is printed LORD in all capital letters in the Old Testament and means “I AM".

    Moses Runs Away

    Moses Runs Away

God’s appointed leader of the Israelites, Moses, fled into the wilderness after killing an Egyptian man. He was being prepared by God to step in and deliver His people the Israelites from Egypt, from their slavery, and from their groaning.

Our Bible Reading is from Exodus 2:11-25.

God saw the people of Israel - and God knew.Exodus 2:25

    An Omniscient Presence

God knows everything and He sees everything too! God saw Moses when he killed the Egyptian. God saw his people when they were trapped in slavery. And God sees you too, every second of every day. Moses ran away from what he’d done, scared for his life! God knew the plans He had for Moses, and used this experience to show Moses that he alone couldn’t save people. God saw the pain His people were in and He had an amazing plan to save them. And He knows everything about you and has an amazing plan for you too. We can never hide from God, nor should we want to.

    Moses Is Born

    Moses Is Born

God's people were trapped in slavery by the Egyptians. Pharaoh had commanded the Egyptians to kill all the Hebrew baby boys, so God’s people started hiding their newborn babies to keep them safe. One mother carefully wove a basket for her son and sent him down the Nile River, hoping he would be taken care of. Help came in the most unlikely of people - Pharaoh's daughter! From baby boys being thrown into the river to the baby boy floating on top of the river, God sent a savior to His people.

Our Bible reading is from Exodus 2:1-10.

"She named him Moses, because she said, I drew him out of the water."Exodus 2:1-10

    A Vessel of Safety

Just like the ark carried Noah, his family and the animals to safety, a basket carried Moses to safety too! His mother loved him so much, and she took great care to make sure this basket was made with strong reeds and sealed to keep the water out. Even though it may have seemed like the baby was left all alone, God’s plan to save His people was taking shape and in the safety of the basket, Moses floated towards protection.

    What's Happening in Egypt?

    What's Happening in Egypt?

In the beginning of Exodus, we have a new king in Egypt. It’s many years later after Joseph’s death, and this new Pharaoh didn’t know about Joseph. He forgot about what Joseph had done for Egypt. And the Israelites increased in number They got to be so many that the new Pharaoh was worried that the Egyptians would be taken over by the Israelites. They enslaved the Hebrews and the Egyptians were commanded to kill all the newborn baby boys. They had forgotten their history, but God had not forgotten about his people!

Our Bible reading is from Exodus 1:1-22.

"Arise, O Lord; O God, lift up your hand; forget not the afflicted."Psalm 10:12

    Our History

Over the years, the Egyptians forgot their history. It’s a dangerous thing to forget your past. When we forget our history, we forget who we are and where we came from. We can’t learn from our mistakes and past actions if we forget what’s happened. That’s why we read the Bible and remember what God has said and done.
