World Cup Racing On a Budget – Joe Nation

Joe Nation is a mountain bike racer who’s done things differently. Joe set off from New Zealand on an overseas adventure to race the World Cups, which involved spending the season living in the woods in Morzine on a budget of 1.5 Euro a day. After heading back home to go to uni, Joe discovered enduro and straight away was hooked. Ultimately picking up a ride with a pro-team, his path has not been straight forward. We chat about Joe’s approach to racing and how that’s changed over the years. Hear how Joe made the move to enduro and what it’s been like riding for Pole. Joe’s story shows what can be done if you’ve got the drive and determination and aren’t afraid to rough it a little. So sit back, hit play and listen to this episode with Joe Nation.

    Cotic

I've been riding and loving Cotic for a long time, but they aren't just great bikes, they are a great company too. Cotic really are focussed on doing what they can for our sport and our planet. They have made me feel like part of the family and they take that same approach with all their customers.

That customer focus has been really clear during the pandemic. With parts in short supply, Cotic will do everything they can to help you. They offer rolling chassis builds so you can swap over good parts that you have on your current bike. You can even send them parts you’ve sourced and they will build them onto your new bike for you. It really is your bike, built for you. Give them a call and you’ll get to speak to an actual human who will help you through the process of getting your dream build ready to go. The UK manufacturing of their suspension bikes also means that they often have stock when others don’t.

You can check out all that they have to offer by heading over to cotic.co.uk

    Strength Factory

January is a month where tonnes of people are thinking about being fitter, getting leaner, and getting quicker on their bike as a result. Unfortunately, most people bite off more than they can chew and don’t stick with it. But with the Strength Factory’s Over 40s MTB programme it’s not some crazy plan that promises abs in two weeks, this is an achievable 20-week plan for everyone. Designed to fit around the ups and downs that life throws at us, so that you can stick at it, be consistent and see and feel yourself improve.

The programme is written so that you can do it in a gym, but you can also do it at home with just a few resistance bands, so whatever life or covid gives us in 2022, you can keep going and be in the best possible condition when the dry trails return.

If you've got a bit more time and energy and want more, then they've got you covered with their Complete MTB programme.

Katy Winton – The Hard Work Pays Off

After being left without a pro-team ride for 2021, Katy Winton went all in on creating her own programme. We sat down to find out how that panned out over the 2021 season. As we’ve come to expect from Katy, this is an open and honest conversation about the ups and downs of the experience she’s had. We chat about the psychological element of the huge changes that Katy experienced and how she has dealt with it. Hear about the reality of the workload involved in managing a team, training and racing at a high level on the world stage and the impact that had on Katy’s physical and mental health.

This story has a happy ending, with Katy picking up a ride with GT Factory Racing for 2022, and we talk about how that came together and Katy’s thoughts on that programme and what 2022 has to offer. I personally find the grit and determination involved here, as well as the thought, the processes and the support that have made it possible, pretty amazing and I hope you do too, so sit back, hit play and listen to this episode with Katy Winton.

Neko Mulally Talks About Building His Own Bike and Race Team

When Neko Mulally got in touch to tell me that he was designing his own bike and putting his own programme together for 2022, I couldn’t have been more excited for him. Find out how much a World Cup season costs and what Neko felt he needed around him in order to perform. We chat about how Neko approached designing the bike and getting it built, as well as finding out when we might be able to buy one. Hear Neko's thoughts on the first rides on the new bike too. earSHOTS

EarSHOTS Bluetooth headphones have you covered for staying motivated while you train.  Their patented Magnetic ear clip solves the problem of earphones falling out or constantly dislodging and moving in your ear, so you can train without distraction. When riders like Wyn Masters and Sam Blenkinsop are using them, you know they must be good.

I have had a set of earSHOTS for nearly a year and I’ve been really impressed. I’ve tried them with a couple of different helmets, over a mixture of terrain including some pretty rough rocky stuff and they really do stay in place.

So if you’re looking for a set of headphones so you can smash out some podcasts while you’re riding, or for some banging tunes to keep you motivated while training, earSHOTS have got you covered. You can find out more over at earshots.com.

Manon Carpenter & Tommy Wilkinson – Trails On Trial

This week we’re sitting down with Manon Carpenter and Tommy Wilkinson to chat all about their new film project, 'Trails on Trial'. Find out how the project came about in the first place, and hear about their experiences as they travelled around the country to chat with trail builders and landowners. With rising user numbers across all outdoors groups, trail access is under more pressure than ever before. Manon and Tommy found some great examples of where mountain bikers have been able to work together with landowners to create incredible trails like those in the Tweed Valley. This is a really positive outlook on what can be done to keep our awesome wild trails up and running, with some really useful thoughts on what all of us can do to help. Outstanding and can’t wait for the next episode!

Absolutely my favorite podcast by far! Informative, entertaining, interesting and addicting. The combination of interviews of individuals from all around the industry, male or female, racer or engineer, to trainers and coaches, comparisons of equipment, state of the sport and industry, it’s all covered.

Not to mention it gets topped off with the Downtime EP print!

Among the best MTB pods available

Its difficult to justfy the value here just because its so saturated: UK based, Euro heavy but US commentary from Neko & Eliot: its kinda global. A wide range of interviews & input from riders, coaches, male & female, and it takes me 3-4 listens per pod to soak it up. Easily among my most droolingly awaited pod downloads of the week - even more so when there are extras!

Excellent information and mtb talk

Just started listening to this mtb podcast, but really enjoy the information and topics discussed. I myself am an avid Midwestern mountain bike rider. A++++
