Dr. Meaghan Howe on Activating Anti-Inflammatory Pathways for Alzheimer’s Prevention
Dr. Meaghan Howe discusses the role of inflammation in cognitive health and explores how activating the body’s anti-inflammatory pathways may support the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease. Drawing from functional nutrition and preventative medicine, she shares insights into lifestyle-based approaches that support long-term brain health.
Dr. Howe is a native to the Detroit area. Majoring in integrative physiology for undergraduate studies along with a personal traumatic foot injury led her into the field of podiatry. For four years, she attended the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland. She then completed a three year surgical residency through Providence Hospital in Southfield and Novi, Michigan, as Chief Resident of Curriculum in her final year. Special professional interests include: wellness, prevention, sports medicine, wound care, and diabetic education. Throughout her career, she has published research on amputation prevention through a multidisciplinary, integrative approach and performed extensive research in diabetic complication prevention. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her children, family, volunteering in the community, traveling, cooking and many fitness activities. Dr. Howe is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine.
Since 2019, after learning of an extremely high genetic predisposition to very early onset Alzheimer's Dementia, Dr. Howe completed training in functional nutrition and functional podiatric medicine. This information is critical to activating pathways of anti-inflammation and therefore, what research demonstrates, prevention of Alzheimer's disease. She prioritizes preventative medicine for chronic disease as a result, in formulating individualized wellness plans for her patients based on Epigenetics (research based) lifestyle factors that influence inflammation and our genes.) Dr. Howe is a certified practitioner for 3x4 genetics and employs practices as a functional medicine podiatrist and regenerative medicine specialist.
