Dr. Robin Bethell talks about his Invisalign “Black Rainbow” technique, “POB’s” and why you can’t be “one and done” when it comes to your dental education. Dental Slang With Dr. Christopher Phelps And Dr. Jodi Danna

Jodi is a little partial to this episode’s guest, Dr. Robin Bethell. He’s chatting with us from Austin, and she’s more than happy to share the mic with another Texan. And Dr. Bethell has important tips to share. He’s letting us in on the secret to mastering Yelp reviews—and it might surprise you.
To Dr. Bethell, now is the best time to be a dentist, even with the rising cost of tuition. The learning opportunities are endless. It’s so easy for modern dentists to get online, learn new skills, get certified, and integrate those skills right into their practice. There’s little reason to refer out anymore and risk losing patients, although Dr. Bethell has a different theory on that.
Referrals aren’t the same as they used to be. Back in the day, when we referred a patient out for niche care, we often didn’t see that patient again for years. Today, the new word for referral is “collaboration.” We aren’t just sending patients away anymore. Rather, Dr. Bethell and his group practice of fellow dentists use referrals as an opportunity to discuss, collaborate, and learn from another practicing dentist or orthodontist.
Patients benefit from this, too. When we work together to provide patients with optimal care, we’re going to get positive feedback. That’s where Yelp comes in, though there are times when we’ll receive negative reviews as well. Yes, negative reviews are scary, but the secret to handling them is actually quite simple. The No. 1 thing you can do with a negative Yelp review is face it head on.
Dr. Bethell shares his tips for facing negative reviews, and the patients who write them, on this episode. Once you overcome the initial awkward hurdle of talking to an angry patient, Dr. Bethell’s techniques are very simple. The secret is how you speak to your patients. We go over some of the slang and sayings you can use to beat negative reviews and really connect with your patients. Tune in now to learn how to master Yelp reviews from a dentist who has done it.
