    Episode 168: Sun King Brewery

    Episode 168: Sun King Brewery

Pour a glass and listen to the dynamic duo behind the beer in every Hoosier's fridge, Clay Robinson and Dave Colt from Sun King Brewing Company. While standing in their barrel room, they share the stories behind the name Big Tickle ("Everyone loves tickling!"- Clay), the creation of the twist-top can, and how Sun King Brewery has been managing during the pandemic when they went a whole week without brewing a beer. Since we cannot currently enjoy a Wee Mac, Osiris, or Sunlight Cream Ale with our friends in one of their four taprooms, Sun King Brewery is ensuring we are all able to quarantine happily with our favorite brews by offering curbside pickup. Sun King Brewery is also releasing hand sanitizer, which will be necessary for when they find themselves eating their way out of a pizza and cherry pie. They even taco-about a new food partnership in their downtown taproom. It will guac your world, so you better tune in. Drink deep of the culture that surrounds you with Clay Robinson and Dave Colt from Sun King Brewing Company.

Episode 164: Dr. Manasa Mantravadi, Ahimsa

Episode 164: Dr. Manasa Mantravadi, Ahimsa

Do you remember your favorite plastic dinnerware set as a kid with the movie character you most admired painted beneath your mac and cheese? What we did not know then about your beloved Mickey Mouse is how the chemicals in plastic are harmful to children. That’s the problem that Dr. Manasa Mantravadi is solving with Ahimsa. The story of Ahimsa begins in a pediatrician moms' group chat when someone questioned what to do about the American Academy of Pediatrics’ report warning of the dangers of plastic. In the report, the AAP recommended swapping out plastic for stainless steel whenever possible. The traditional dinnerware for children in India is stainless steel, which Manasa’s mom reminded her of when she replaced all of Manasa’s twin’s plasticware with stainless steel during a visit. Manasa began searching for stainless steel sets online and found that they were boring, especially for kids. Manasa’s passion for children’s health runs deep as she is first and foremost a Pediatrician. Therefore, she was inspired to embark on the journey of starting Ahimsa - colorful stainless steel dinnerware sets for children. Now with a team of five, Ahimsa has sold over 1,400 sets in over 32 states. Tune in to learn about why plastic is so prevalent in the U.S. and not in countries like India, the process of finding a manufacturer for stainless steel dinnerware, and how Manasa has managed a successful side hustle while working as a pediatrician. Drink deep of the culture that surrounds you with Dr. Manasa Mantravadi of Ahimsa.

Must listen podcast for all things Indy!

I’m a relative newcomer to Indianapolis having lived here for less than four years. The majority of that time I’ve looked to the Drink Culture Podcast to introduce me to many of the local businesses, artists, musicians and non-profits that I’ve grown to love and support. I feel fortunate to have come to personally know some of the past guests of the podcast and am thankful that Drink Culture provided these introductions. Haley, Jared and Fabian are fantastic ambassadors to the city and Indianapolis is lucky to have them!
