Family Therapy Express

E51. The Value of the Simulation Experience for Learning EFFT Therapeutic Skills with Dr. Bobbie Posmontier

Welcome back for the next journey of The Family Express Podcast with Kathryn de Bruin, LMFT and Ronda Evans, LMFT where our destination is resilient and connected families.

Our guest today is Dr. Bobbie Posmontier, Professor, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, and the Evelyn Lauder Endowed Chair at Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing. Dr. Posmontier leads innovative curriculum initiatives integrating attachment-based psychotherapy, simulation-based training, and emotionally focused family therapy.

She has developed a novel simulation experience for PMHNP students using standardized patients at the New York Simulation Center (NYSIM). This immersive program allows graduate nursing students to practice real-time family engagement, emotional attunement, trauma sensitivity, and attachment-based interviewing before entering real-world practice.

Today, she’ll share how the simulation was designed, the pedagogical goals behind it, why emotionally focused family therapy matters in psychiatric training, and what students have learned through this experience.

Kathryn de Bruin is an ICEEFT Certified EFT Trainer. Kathryn and Ronda are both licensed marriage and family therapists, EFT supervisors and therapists, and AAMFT Approved Supervisors.
