    EDSG Episode 82 - Mountainshadow

    EDSG Episode 82 - Mountainshadow

    * Great Dragon Backgrounds: Mountainshadow

    * Far Scholar, “the meddler”

    * Mountainshadow is toward the top of the list of ostensibly “good guy” dragons.

    * Appears in Shadowrun as Dunkelzahn, where he is a fan of humanity in general, but not as blatantly in the Earthdawn era.

    * He and his brother Icewing were clutched by All Wings.

    * Primary lair is in the Dragon Mountains, rumored to have a secondary lair in the Badlands.

    * Helped Prince Neden recover from his suffering under the Death Rebellion.

    * According to the Outcast, caring for a small clutch of eggs.

    * Adult dragons that also lair in Mountainshadow’s territory, and what that likely says about their relationship.

    * Legendary artifact: The Eye of All Wings

    * Collects magical lore and mystical secrets, one of the most magically learned beings in Barsaive, if not the world.

    * Became Loremaster after the death of Vasdenjas.

    * Could be brought into a game as a source of mystic lore.

    * Large network of spies and loyal servants across the province.

    * Mountainshadow’s drakes, and possible involvement with the theft of the Everliving Flower.

    * The Dragons’ Network and Darktooth

    * Mountainshadow’s personality: Compulsive need to study things he does not understand.

    * Possible weakness in that he might take time to gather information before he acts.

    * Opposition to Thera as a campaign hook to involve Mountainshadow as an ally (or antagonist).

    * Possible involvement with Iopos and the Denairastas.

    * Good option as high-level employer or mentor for “typical” player character groups, especially compared to other dragons.

Excellent deep dive

The explanations into the lore and the mechanics are wonderful. Earthdawn is a wonderful system, and this podcast makes an excellent case for why more people should play.

Indispensable Information

There is no better place to find information on Earthdawn.

A Prince Amongst Men ,

Irritating show with potential to be good

I like Earthdawn, and one of the hosts - Josh - does a really good job of presenting information, so I've tried to persevere. But, I'm close to giving up on this podcast, for two reasons:

1) One of the hosts - Dan - does this fake, grating, cackling sound over and over and over again. He does it every time he says something he thinks is funny; which turns out to be every three or four sentences. It it s a verbal tick that I can't take listening to any more.

2) Dan spends a lot of time describing how much worse other games are than Earthdawn; based, apparently exclusively, on confused recollections of having played D&D 20 years ago. I like Earthdawn, I've been playing since it first came out, I sought out an Earthdawn podcast, I've bought the books and backed the kickstarters, so I am pretty sure I qualify as an Earthdawn fan-boy - and most of what he says is just nonsense. I'll happily listen to what's good about Earthdawn, but I'm not interested in hearing him dump on other games to try to make his favorite seem better by comparision; particularly when he's so ill-informed about modern role-playing games.

I know I've been bashing Dan here, but I don't think Dan he's a bad guy and I'm sure I'd like him in real life. But nerves, and an excessive desire to sell the thing he loves has made listening painful.

I've no idea if they read or care about iTunes comments or not, but I don't want to just seem to be a hater, it has potential to be really good. I'm going to give it another few episodes and see if it picks up.
