Why is it so hard to stick to healthy eating habits? Why is it that when I plan to only have 3 or 4 Oreos I end up eating the entire sleeve? Why am I feeling like crap when I am eating the foods that I enjoy and love? Does this sound familiar? This was pretty much Shannon’s narrative before meeting with Laura! Healthy eating should be easier than it is. The reason it is so hard is because of the emotional ties that we have to food. There is a psychological connection to our food choices and why foods can hold so much power over us. In this interview, Laura B. Folkes takes Shannon on an emotional rollercoaster of a live coaching session. Laura helps Shannon to identify what her biggest challenges are when it comes to eating in alignment with her goals. Shannon is honest and open with Laura as this deep conversation unravels some of Shannon’s demons. Laura and Shannon talk about how everyone’s journey is different and the goal is not to feel like a prisoner or feel bad for making the food choices we make, but to always have a choice and not turn to food for the emotional reasons that we might have. We can achieve any goal when we prioritize our mental health!
Before jumping into today’s interview, Shannon shares the journey she has had this week after coming home from vacation. Shannon is slowly getting back into her routine and is listening to her body as she adjusts. She also shares the recent Reiki session she had with previous guest Liz Carlin and how identifying the chakra blockages she is experiencing is helping to enhance her spiritual connection. It’s a crazy week with 2 puppies in the house but Shannon is still able to be there for her Journiers and answer the questions that came in this week! She has supported over 70 clients who know what they should be eating but have a hard time sticking to it by helping them get to the bottom of why they self-sabotage so they can radically transform their relationship with food. Laura is a facilitator of the research-based Truce with Food® process, which helps clients achieve sustainable results by getting to the bottom of why they fall off track and aren’t able to remain consistent. After successfully losing 60 pounds and working through her own emotional relationship with food, Laura’s mission became helping others get to the bottom of their self-sabotaging patterns. Laura coaches clients one-on-one, in small groups, runs workshops, speaks at summits and conferences and has been featured in Voyage Chicago.
