This study lays out the keys for interpreting the book of Ecclesiastes, which investigates the search for meaning in this life under the sun. Everything in this life that we think will bring fulfillment to our lives is examined and found wanting, such as pleasure, labor, and wisdom. Part of the problem is that life never works out the way you want it to work out. Thus, the problems of life take center stage in the struggle to understand the significance of life. The simple answer is laid out at the end of the book, which also stands as a warning against speculative wisdom (a wisdom not based on the proper foundation). The book of Ecclesiastes is relevant to many of the questions and struggles people have today and ultimately points us to the right answer.

This seminar was presented at Grace Presbyterian Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in October of 2009.

Daniel Forsythe ,

Doesn’t take the message seriously.

In this series he apologizes for the message of Ecclesiastes more than bringing out the coherency of the message. It seems that he would rather throw out the first eleven chapters. The reality is that all people ask these questions in times of crisis. This book can serve as a comfort for those moments, because it affirms the feelings of doubt, angst and frustration, then turn those towards God.
