Black to the Future (Pt.1) with Dr. Cherise Smith & Michael Ray Charles
We have a great conversation with Dr. Cherise Smith, a professor of art history and Chair of the Department of African & African Diaspora Studies at UT Austin and author of Michael Ray Charles: A Retrospective, which surveys his career. We also welcome the subject of said book, artist Michael Ray Charles, whose work and research deal with how African Americans have been viewed and portrayed throughout history, particularly through racist stereotypes such as Aunt Jemima, and how that causes them to view themselves.

Comadreando: We are witnessing one of those history changing weeks. The United States crossed the milestone of 100,000 dead from Coronavirus while also seeing a huge resurgence of the other virus that infects this country: racism. Ms.
Love, love, love the eclectic topics and engaging banter. Your podcasts teach me more about the world, be it Spanish, history or culture. Thank you. Reminds me of the most informative conversations in college.
Love. Love. Love.
I don’t listen to a lot of podcasts, but Kim, Dave & Michael have enlightened me. They have such an awesome bond and it’s heartwarming to hear them together. And as a straight white person, I find the topics incredibly important for me to listen and learn. I also love the weekly Spanish lessons! Thanks for bringing your podcast to the world, Kim, Dave & Michael.
