Innovation in the Enterprise

Cool to listen to a Podcast that shares actual stories from actual practitioners. There are tons of awesome content and stories for entrepreneurs, but the case studies of scalable innovation initiatives within large organizations are rare so it’s great to learn form practitioners who are getting their hands dirty.

In this podcast you will hear Simon share his honest views on how cross functional teams interact and how he is driven to understand companies that can break down those walls.

One of my favorite snippets from the dialogue …“What do you feel makes an effective organization?… Answer-“Nothing magical—it’s all about a high trust environment.”

Sustaining and Disrupting

Great conversation with the VP of Operations at Spotify. Interesting to hear insights into their model for managing strategic decision making and execution. Innovation is an endless process of making bets on your beliefs. In exploring both known and fuzzy spaces Spotify is optimizing for speed of learning and attempting to build a high trust environment.

Simon Marcus’s Interview is Candid on Environmental Factors Speeding or Impeding Innovation

So many enterprises are rushing to implement innovation and lean-startup programs, without assessing the foundation to build on. It was great to hear Simon Marcus describe culture and trust beyond just throwing just the words around in a headline.

“High Trust Environment means people willing to take more risks, to share info with each other, will to sit down and hash out problems.” without it things slow down, resilience is hampered. Simon also recalled hearing an accurate description of culture - “your culture is defined as the worse thing you will allow a senior manager to get away with.”

Well said! Sam, I look forward to hearing you host more guests with realistic and insightful nuggets and can be applied in the enterprise.
