Ep 190: Josh Blue (Winner of NBC's Last Comic Standing‪)‬ A Comedy Advice Podcast

    • Improv

Josh Blue is an extraordinary comedian that WON Season 4 of NBC's Last Comic Standing in 2006 and 5 specials that have released on Showtime, Comedy Central, Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon.

He was the first comedian to perform stand-up on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, was named Best Winning Reality Show Guest on Live with Regis and Kelly, and his story has been featured on Fox, CBS, ABC, MSNBC,  and CNN.

Josh does over 200 shows a year, continuing to spread laughter and break down stereotypes of people with disabilities. His stand-up routine is in a constant state of evolution and his off-the-cuff improvisational skills guarantee that no two shows are alike.

Josh joins Stephen to talk about:
-His start in comedy at an open mic in between a slam poet and a songwriter.
-What it’s like to mix comedy and music through his experience opening for The Lumineers.
-Josh's approach to comedy, including learnings from past shows, not writing anything down, and reading the room to add comedy decor like one-liners, callbacks, and more..
-How Josh’s self-awareness and ability to see how his audience sees him allows him to work with and mess with his them.

Then the two troublemakers get insightful and start to give advice, from helping someone that is disgusted by his girlfriend's kisses, keeping up a lie to cover up that a guy skated into a bus, and so much more.
