In this episode of the Eternal Echoes podcast, host Katharine Rose speaks with John Linke, a 75-year-old man of God with a great sense of humor.
At a young age, John promised God that if he was ever successful, “He wouldn’t have to come looking for me.” After starting a business at 39 years old that enabled him to retire at 50, John kept his promise. He and his wife, Chris, have spent years supporting missions work in Kenya, funding the building of a dormitory at a boarding school that has grown from three children 20 years ago to 738 children today.
Throughout our conversation, John emphasizes the importance of perseverance, patience and trusting in God’s timing, as well as praying before making any decision. John also highlights how he’s experienced God’s love and protection over the years, including during a near-death experience at 16 years old when he was blown up by fireworks.
Now living in a retirement community, John also shares how he has found renewed purpose by meeting new people and talking about Jesus.
Wise words worth echoing:
-“A turtle can’t move until it sticks its neck out.”
-“It’s not about becoming rich or important. It’s about how you finish.”
-“You just have to keep doing the right things right and things will take shape for you.”
-“God has a plan for your life, but it’s a lot easier to pull a rope than it is to push a rope.”
-“The world isn’t going to show you the good way. Follow where God leads you.”
-“You’re able to make better decisions if you’re in the Word.”
-“Some have to go and some have to send. I missed my going period, but I can send.”
-“God wrote a pretty good book…and if you read it, it can shape you.”
