Ep.65: How Monica & Aidee San Miguel Created VOLVERde, a Sustainable Online Marketplace Inspired By La Cultura Werk Mija Podcast

    • Careers

I am joined by Monica and Aidee San Miguel, hermanas and founders of VOLVERde. VOLVERde is an online marketplace of carefully curated, beautiful, effective, low-waste products for your body and home sourced from a variety of responsible, diverse brands. Volverde exists to make it easier to discover sustainable product swaps, shop responsibly, and minimize plastic waste.
Aidee studied electrical engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Before starting Volverde, Aidee was a design engineer where she worked on projects for a nuclear power plant. While Monica spent her career as a product leader in consumer financial services. Together they built a brand to celebrate the sustainability traditions of their Latinx culture as Low-waste was the way of their abuelitas, and it will be the way of the future. They are intentional in their focus on the Latinx community, given their cultural connection to re-use and our disproportionate burden from plastic pollution, toxic products, and climate change. They are proud to say that over 90% of our products are sourced from women-, Asian-, black-, brown- or indigenous-owned businesses.
