The Colorado Avalanche would have loved to be in the position the Edmonton Oilers were in, where they rested the majority of their top players. But the Avs have not been playing well as of late and they all wanted to get back on track, no matter who their opponent put out on the ice.

The Avalanche did just that in a 5-1 win, which could have been a lot worse than that. Four goals in the first, one in the second was all the Avs needed to coast through the 3rd to finish the regular season with a win and 107 points on the year.

Now the real test begins in Winnipeg.

One more to go until the big games begin! The Edmonton Oilers come to town to faceoff against the Colorado Avalanche that, in the end, won't have much meaning in the standings, but could have a lot of meaning for other reasons.

We can all agree this is going to be a very challenging series for the Colorado Avalanche in facing the Winnipeg Jets. Not only did the Jets sweep the season series against the Avs, they likely will have the home ice for the series.

The Colorado Avalanche cannot get out of their own way, and this weekend was just about as low as they can get.

A huge game on Saturday with seeding on the line vs their first round opponent, the Winnipeg Jets, ended in a 7-0 thumping.

A bounce back game on Sunday would have had everyone feeling better. And for two periods we all did. But hockey games are three periods, and that is when it all fell apart against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Things are not good for the Avs right now, and you can't feel good about having any chance of a deep playoff run if they can't stop things from going this wrong.

The Colorado Avalanche needed to get back on track. And Nathan MacKinnon was just the guy for the job.

A four point night, including his 3rd hat trick of the season, lifted the Avs to a 5-2 win over the Minnesota Wild which eliminated the Wild from playoff contention in the process.
