This week we have a conversation with the wonderful Chris Evans, a firefighter that has not only battled flames and infernos, but also the stranglehold of addictions that so many suffer with. Chris, like many others, received his diagnosis later in life which enabled him to look back and see the pieces that formed the jigsaw of his habits. If you're struggling with addiction, reach out to family and friends, or attend groups and speak to your employers about support in the workplace, like Chris did.
You can also reach out to UK addiction treatment centres if you live in the UK: https://www.ukat.co.uk/
Remember to share this episode, folks, as together we can make a difference.
Note from Sheila's editor: Mental health can be a real struggle, especially for those with obsessions and overthinking issues. I recommend reaching out to your local talk therapy services. Often, we are quite reductive of our own symptoms so it's important to communicate how we feel to those around us. Think of it a bit like a football match: The players on the pitch are in the thick of it and can only see what's in front of them. The fans in the stands, a lot like our friends that stand on the outside and are further removed from the situation, are able to see a broader picture and piece together things we may have missed unfolding. Speak to your loved ones about concerns you may have, no matter how small, and follow up with your GP about concerns. They may direct you to talk therapies and CBT, such as the helpful people at black country talk therapies who cover Walsall and other surrounding areas. Google 'Talk therapy NHS [your area]' to see what is available to you.
