Ep117. The importance of diversity within mainstream veganism The Simply Vegan Podcast

    • Food

Today we kick off the episode by discussing the revelations that some of Tesco's fruit isn't actually vegan-friendly, along with the incredible news that Italy is banning the killing of male chicks in the egg industry. We also chat about Molly's upcoming trip to eco-friendly festival Shambala, and review new launches from Squeaky Bean, Pimp My Salad and H!p oat milk chocolate.

The interview This week we also chat to Kate Fowler from Generation Vegan about how we can all do more to encourage and represent diversity within the vegan movement. We discuss Gen V's previous work under the name Million Dollar Vegan, which included asking the Pope and Donald Trump to go vegan, along with their new campaigns working with social justice activist Christopher Eubanks and mother and daughter drag act The Vegan Queens. Kate also recommends reading the work of disability and vegan activist Sunaura Taylor, including her book Beasts of Burden.

Kate explains how using the 'right language' isn't enough and shares tips on how we can educate ourselves on social justice issues to enable us to move veganism forwards in an inclusive way.
