Rebroadcast - What The Human Race Has Built is Suboptimal with Michael Kleeman

Rebroadcast - What The Human Race Has Built is Suboptimal with Michael Kleeman

With COP28 coming to a close this week, we throw back to Episode 33 of The Thinking Leader where Bryce spoke with Michael Kleeman about what the human race has built is sub-optimal. This conversation feels more important than ever given the potential of the decisions being made about the fate of the planet in Dubai this week.

Bryce and Michael discuss dealing with problems in complex systems. The main problem facing the human race is the fact we have built sub-optimal systems and processes that are unsustainable. These systems inherently produce waste products and lose value on a local level. Bryce recalls the time he met the founder of Toyota and how their company had a 100 year plan, positing that planning this far ahead is a necessity.

Michael wants to see CEOs and leaders be incentivized to optimize their businesses for the long term. It is important for leaders to have a reason why they do what they do.

In this episode you will hear:

How to use critical thinking to navigate the complexities of the world
The intergenerational discount rate and the effects it has on how we make choices
Why you should think long term instead of short term
What to do to become a mission driven leader

Leading In Emergency Situations with Dan Dworkis MD PhD

Leading In Emergency Situations with Dan Dworkis MD PhD

In this episode of The Thinking Leader, Bryce Hoffman and Marcus Dimbleby talk with Dr. Dan Dworkis, Chief Medical Officer at Mission Critical Team Institute, about swarm teams in mission critical environments like hospitals.

They discuss how teams are formed in emergency situations, bringing together whoever is available to respond to critical issues immediately. However, Dr. Dworkis notes that while swarm teams are effective at responding to crises, hospitals often fail to debrief afterwards or capture lessons learned. Bryce and Marcus suggest ways that hospitals could implement an anonymous online feedback system and regular team meetings to ensure swarming experiences are used to continuously improve emergency response procedures.

    In this episode:

How to make decisions under pressure
How to make better decisions in emergency situations
How to improve teamwork in your company
How to build trust in a big team
How to improve hospital emergency response procedures
    How to handle emergencies

Leadership development for the thinking person

So much value here. I appreciate Bryce’s focus on ideas and innovative thinking. His guests are top-rate. Check out the November 2023 episode with Rich Horwath as a great example. This is a reliably valuable resource by leaders and future leaders.
