In this episode I’m chatting with dietitian, nutrition therapist, certified intuitive eating counselor, and author Alissa Rumsey about the transformative power of making peace with food. As you’ll hear in the podcast, Alissa is the author of Unapologetic Eating: Make Peace With Food and Transform Your Life, a book which teaches the reader how to reconnect with their body and make peace with food. Alissa is also the founder of Alissa Rumsey Nutrition and Wellness, a weight-inclusive nutrition practice that offers virtual counseling and online programs to help people liberate themselves from dieting, cultivate a peaceful relationship to food and their bodies, and live a more authentic, connected life.
I love the work Alissa is doing and learned so much from our chat, but here are some of my favorite takeaways:
Our society and diet culture normalizes disordered eating, but the reality is that health and weight are not as linked as we’ve been led to believe; Intuitive eating allows you to focus on eating what is right for you, while taking care of your body, without restriction or deprivation; Food can be an entry point into what we want out of life, so it’s important to learn to trust yourself around food; Unlearning what we’ve been taught about food and our bodies is an essential step in living a healthy life; Healthy living is living in a way that is aligned with one’s values, specifically those associated with mental, physical, spiritual, financial, and social health.
