Being a first-generation student and moving away from another place can be somewhat stressful. Maya Ellsworth, a first-generation sophomore, tells all about her transition from her small high school in Hawaii to the huge campus of UNLV. She talks about her work as a peer mentor and how she's motivating students to ask questions and connecting them to the necessary resources. Maya shares a personal experience that inspired her to become a nurse and discusses overcoming obstacles as she navigated college life. She shares how living in the dorms her first year allowed her to make friends and come out of her shell, along with how the library was a hotspot. Lastly, she shares her experience as a first-year, tips, and resources that helped her, and how the Aloha spirit powers her social outlook.
