I talk about the role of inspiration, attention and astonishment in the reading process and on how we move from “I should” read the Bible to “I MUST” read the Bible for the expansion of my soul in love for God and others.
I begin with Augustine’s words from On Christian Doctrine: “So anyone who thinks that he has understood the divine scriptures or any part of them, but cannot by his understanding build up this double love of God and neighbor, has not yet succeeded in understanding them” and talks about how Augustine’s framework can be a method for reading Scripture at a deeper level today.
