Episode 15: The Greatest Event in Television History with Gena Radcliffe Ladies Love Paul Rudd

    • TV & Film

Today, we appreciate the hell out of Paul Rudd in The Greatest Event in Television History (2012-2014) with Gena Radcliffe. This four-episode series recreating the opening credits of Simon & Simon, Hart to Hart, Too Close for Comfort and Bosom Buddies was such unexpected Pure Paul Rudd Bliss that we recommend this as the cure for all your ills. It stars Adam Scott, Jon Hamm, Paul Scheer, Amy Poehler, Catherine O’Hara, Kathryn Hahn, Jon Glaser, Jason Mantzoukas, June Diane Raphael, Chelsea Peretti, Tom Hanks, Peter Scolari Billy Joel, Horatio Sanz, and Jeff Probst. Our discussion covers a lot of 70s and 80s essentials, including Amy and Gena explaining Battle of the Network Stars and Hollywood Squares to the young Australian, and Gena explains her adoration of Tom Hanks as his career arced from playing a fuckboy to salt-of-the-Earth characters. Amy shows off her impressive, yet fairly useless skill of recalling actors in TV shows, and Larissa finds her new purpose in life and it’s quite possibly the best purpose anyone has ever had, ever.

Three important lessons:

+ Brenda and Dylan FOREVER. That’s it, that’s all you need to know. We will fight you if you try to disagree, really, really we will. (Stay tuned for our “We Hate Kelly Taylor” podcast.)

+ Round the Twist is the second Australian national anthem and the only true way to confirm if someone is Australian: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPxJ6RR40ZU

+ Jeff Probst is an unexpected delight and we all adore him now.

Most non-TGEITH references we make in this episode:

Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayze and C. Thomas Howell in The Outsiders, Facts of Life, Beverly Hills 90210, Knight Rider and April, The A-Team and Amy, Ann Jillian and Jennifer Slept Here, the length of opening credits, television network marketing, M*A*S*H, The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart, Dear John, Girls, Sex and the City, Golden Girls, Who’s the Boss and Alyssa Milano, How Did This Get Made, June Diane Raphael’s crush on Vin Diesel, Law & Order, Dukes of Hazzard, Daisy Duke doll, Game of Thrones, Westworld, Justified, Friends, Big Bang Theory, King of Queens, Kevin Can Wait, Battle of the Network Stars, Circus of the Network Stars, Dancing with the Stars, Greg Evigan and My Two Dads, Malcom Jamal-Warner, Telly Savalas, Welcome Back Kotter and Horseshack and Gabe Kaplan, Melissa Sue Anderson and Little House on the Prairie, Brian Robbins and Head of the Class, Hollywood Squares, Paul Linde, Phyllis Diller and Fang, The West Wing, Family Ties, Round the Twist, Manimal, Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, Jackie Earl Hayley, Buffy, Zach Galifianakis, Dead Pilots Society, John Hodgman
