When I first started my career it was a lot of verite/documentary style coverage. Which usually meant going hand held and running around grabbing what I felt were interesting shots. As my career progressed and working on larger sets with more demand for a structured approach, I soon realized that my approach was had too many faults. There was a lack of coverage that not only made my time on set longer than needed but in the edit there were a lot of gaps in where I could have told a more thoughtful story. Today i'd like to explore the concept of coverage and why it matters to you as a cinematographer.
