Barbara Gibson has been providing advocacy for survivors of abuse and trauma since she joined the Women’s Resource Center staff in 1990. For many years, she served as the organization’s Family Advocate, conducting home visits and providing individualized support
to survivors in the community. In September of 2007, Barbara assumed the position of safe house director, overseeing all operations of the safe house and providing emotional support, goal alignment and transition services to adult residents. Barbara serves on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence and is current chair of the membership and programming committee. She has completed the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia Expert Witness Training. Barbara has developed and facilitated trainings locally and nationally on domestic violence, resilience, and self-compassion.
Additionally, Barbara is a 200-hour registered yoga instructor and meditation guide with Insight Timer. She has completed the Connection Coalition's certification training in
Trauma Informed Outreach Yoga. Barbara is also certified by the Trauma Resource Institute as a Community Resiliency Model teacher and has completed Shambhala training Levels I and II, as well as Cognitively Based Compassion Training (CBCT). Barbara
encourages others to commit to a regular nurturing practice for a greater sense of well-being in mind and body. She has appeared on a variety of radio and television programs to explain the importance of building resilience and providing safe places for victims of
domestic violence, including children.
