Episode 538: Dr. Chad Pecknold Shares Part 2 of His Talk Called "Whither the Catholic Mission to America?"

Dr. Chad Pecknold, a Professor of Historical & Systematic Theology in the School of Theology at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and the Resident Theologian of the Basilica's Institute for Faith and Public Culture, shares part two of his two-part series on "Whither the Catholic Mission to America?"  It was recorded on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, in our Lyceum Auditorium, 313 Duke Street.
In His Great Commission, Our Lord called His apostles “to make disciples of all nations.” The history of the Faith can be told as just that — the conversion of whole nations and cultures. So how should we understand the Catholic mission to America? What has been the dominant missiological strategy? Has it succeeded? Dr. Pecknold examines some historical problems with the Catholic mission to America and asks how our strategy might change to be more faithful to the Great Commission today.

Great homilies and great resource for prayers

I have many of these podcasts saved for when I want extra help in my prayer life. The rosaries, the litanies, and the homilies all add to my spiritual life. Thank you for posting. I also enjoy the occasional talks.

Thank You & Request

I’m new to St. Mary’s Basilica and am enjoying the podcasts. I was told George Washington was instrumental in establishing St. Mary’s Church within the bounds of the city of Alexandria at a time when Catholic Churches were denied that privilege. A podcast about the history of the establishment and growth of the Basilica would be interesting and welcome. Thank you.
