Episode 39 - No Labels, No Limits - with Pax Tandon, Mastering Mindfulness through Positive Psychology
Pax Tandon is a mindfulness thought leader with a degree from the world-renowned Masters of Applied Positive Psychology Program at the University of Pennsylvania. Through her coaching, consulting, writing, filmmaking and media appearances she has helped everyone from newbies and skeptics to seasoned meditation practitioners commit to an elevation of spirit and to flourish. She now brings these tools and strategies to a wider audience in her forthcoming book, Mindfulness Matters: A Guide to Mastering Your Life [Schiffer Publishing, August 2018].
“Mindfulness is the foundation of thriving. It is hard to fill a cup that is already full, and mindfulness helps us empty the cup so we can add in better liquid,” Tandon says. “In a world of constant distractions and stimuli, we’re losing our most valuable superpower: our ability to focus. Mindfulness brings us back to the present, the only reality that exists, and helps us stay grounded there.”
"Positive psychology isn't about being positive all the time. It's not a happy-ology. It's not a yellow bumper sticker on the back of your car. It's actually about recognizing that negative emotions serve a really strong purpose in your life and in fact negative emotions help engender a kind of change that positive emotions cannot. Negative emotions serve a purpose. Our greatest force for change are negative emotions that lead to the greatest growth."
