Episode 42: The Health and Environmental Impacts of the Foods We Eat Baby Steps Nutrition Podcast

    • Parenting

We are exposed to thousands of environmental chemicals every day- through food, drinking water, air pollution, and consumer products, which are putting a toxic burden on our minds and bodies. Numerous studies have documented the link between chemical exposure and fetal and childhood developmental delays; decreased fertility; altered hormone and enzyme levels;; immune system changes and various cancers, along with a long list of other adverse health outcomes.

On this informative and important episode of the Baby Steps Nutrition Podcast, Argavan speaks with Dr. Cynthia Curl, co-director for the Center for Excellence in Environmental Health & Safety for Boise State. Dr. Curl obtained her Ph.D. in Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences from the University of Washington and joined Public Health and Population Science at Boise State University in 2015. Dr. Curl has earned several honors and awards, including the prestigious Science to Achieve Results (STAR) Fellowship from the Environmental Protection Agency and the Magnuson Scholar Award, awarded each year to the top student in each of the Health Sciences Schools. She was recently named one of the 20 Pioneers under 40 in Environmental Public Health by the Collaborative on Health & Environment.

Argavan and Dr. Curl discuss how environmental issues affect nutrition and well-being in humans, the differences between organic and conventional food and what we, as caregivers, need to know about how environmental toxins are impacting our children’s health and strategies for families to lower their toxin load. A must listen!
