Episode 45 - Dr. Jenna Miller: Infertility in Medicine Part I TarHeal Wellness: A Podcast for Residents

    • Mental Health

In these episodes, Dr. Sara Helvey speaks with Jenna Miller, MD. Dr. Miller is a pediatric intensivist with over 10 years of experience in the field.  She also serves as the pediatric ECMO director at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City and she is a co-discoverer of Trimethoprim-Sulfamethoxazole Associated Respiratory Failure.  While she has had incredible success in her professional career, she personally fought a battle with infertility for 7 years.  After a long road with many emotional highs and lows, she welcomed her son into the world in 2023.  In order to help others trying to navigate the complicated and nuanced field of infertility, she wrote a book called Navigating your Infertility as a Woman in Medicine.  This book is written for anyone who is looking for a simple yet detailed explanation on how infertility works in the United States.  During our conversation, we explore Dr. Miller’s experiences with infertility in medicine, how she managed to navigate the challenging time and emotional commitment, and what advice she has for others who are currently facing infertility or are simply trying to make better decisions around family planning.
