Episode 49: Nonviolent Love is Active and Creative CAM podcast

    • Christianity

What if someone is trying to kill your wife and kids? Are Christians supposed to stand by and do nothing? No! Fr. McCarthy uses a story about Clarence Jordan in the 1940's to demonstrate how nonviolent love is neither passive nor powerless. It is a skill that requires practice and creativity. Jordan found himself in a situation that was not entirely unlike the situation many Catholics feel they are beginning to find themselves in today, in the summer of 2020. Though the details aren't exactly the same, the same dynamics seem to be at work, and Christians are facing the same kinds of choices he faced then with regard to the use of violence.
