Art & Labor chronicles the stories of social justice organizing within the arts. We hope to center the human cost of the “art world” and advocate for fair labor practices for artists, assistants, fabricators, docents, interns, registrars, janitors, writers, editors, curators, guards, performers, and anyone doing work for art & cultural institutions.

    194 – Physical Media

Iconic bald guys Marshall and OK are back, and this week they rant poetic about physical media. Who is speaking with authority? Is it us? Is it Tavi Gevinson? Is it the New York Times? Is it whoever is telling the New York Times to censor certain words and whoever is telling Tavi to pay … Continue reading "194 – Physical Media"

193 – Suck by Suck West

Art and Labor 2 is back! We take a second to decompress and to welcome new cohost Marshall, who’s talking to us today about United Musicians and Allied Workers. 190 – Netflix’s One Piece w/ Alex Degen and Alec Robbins

OK and Sarah are joined by two of our absolute favorite cartoonists Alex Degen and Alec Robbins to discuss One Piece both as a comic😤 and as content😩. Alec’s fantastic thread on the “corporate experiment” that is Netflix’s One Piece prompted this excellent convo on art education, WGA/SAG actions, and flattening of culture that happens … Continue reading "190 – Netflix’s One Piece w/ Alex Degen and Alec Robbins"

Great show!!

I appreciate the unfiltered disdain for landlords and gentrification and NY Times and yuppies and hipsters and yipsters (yuppie/hipsters)

More Marxist than thou

This show has great potential but the presenters get caught in vortex of anxiety about whether they are leftist enough. It’s a occasionally a relevant question but don’t let it get in the way of actual thinking.

A little sissy ,

needs ads

It is a pleasure to hear these very human voices discuss the inhuman nature of navigating urban living as an artist while trying to avoid excessive taxation of the body and soul.

Please feel free to hold off on releasing episodes when there's slow news, or if you're building towards a broad topic! You have a cult following at this point, we will wait for you.
