Episode 66: Dr Victoria Wilson-Crane, author of Sixteen Days: a Sudden Death. What to say‪?‬ Coffee and Contemplation with Susan Dunlop

    • Personal Journals

Today's guest is Dr Victoria Wilson-Crane the author of Sixteen Days: A Sudden Death. What to Say?

Vic is an Advanced Grief Recovery Method Specialist, supporting children and adults grieving life losses. Her memoir and self-help book, Sixteen Days, was published in January 2022; it is advice for those supporting others in shock and grief following sudden death.

By day, an Educational innovator and leader, Vic used her academic writing skills and love of words as therapy as she faced significant bereavement in 2020.

Vic lives in West Lancashire, England, with her author husband, Roger. They share their life and sense of humour with their dance-crazy daughter, Holly Mae, and their exuberant, unique, yet typically bonkers flat-coated retriever, Ted Hastings.

Vic will share the circumstances that led to her writing such a book and answer questions about what to say, or not to say, what to do that is helpful, and more.

In preparation for this episode, I put out a call for input on Facebook and Instagram and had some conversations with people who have experienced the sudden death of loved ones.

My sister-in-law has permitted me to share some helpful feedback, or as she said, ‘you’re Paul’s aunty, yes share'. She easily recalled the words people spoke that she found helpful and not helpful and what she observed after Paul’s sudden death. There are also some insights from Paul's sister on words that never got to be spoken in sudden-death situations.

Update 15 January 2024: The transcript of our conversation will soon be available on YouTube.

Vic’s episode has been broadcast across 7 or 8 streaming sites including the one you’ve just listened to!
