In this episode, Kim Zar Bloorian and Yaakov Zar speak to Ran Eliasaf, the founder and Managing Partner of the Northwind Group about Northwind's resilience during this time, their recent fund and how to progress your career.

Ran founded Northwind, a real estate private equity firm in 2008. Ran oversees all company activities including deal originations, acquisitions, development, construction, asset management, loan servicing, property management, leasing, financing, and disposition. Since Northwind’s inception, Ran has been involved in  the development, acquisition, and financing of over $2.5 billion worth of real estate.

From 2010 to 2016, under Ran’s leadership, Northwind concentrated on the acquisition and development of income producing assets held by long-term owners, predominantly in Manhattan. During this time, Northwind acquired 1.75mm SF of real estate. In 2017, recognizing a peak in the Manhattan market, Ran developed Northwind’s lending platform. Through the lending platform, Northwind originates and acquires first and second position debt instruments secured by real estate assets in the form of acquisition, bridge, condo-inventory, distress, rescue, NPL, and other special situation financing. Additionally, in 2016 Northwind developed a strategy of investing in and providing financing for healthcare and senior living opportunities. Northwind’s current senior living and healthcare portfolio includes 14 properties totaling around 2,500 beds, and is valued at ~$500 million.

Prior to founding Northwind, Ran co-founded and served as CEO of EXRE, the real estate investment platform of one of Israel's largest family offices. Ran is a retired Captain in the Israeli Navy and sits on the Board of American Friends of Natal, a non-profit aiding people suffering from PTSD. Ran received an LLB in International Law and BA in Finance from IDC in Israel.
