Allie shares how pets are targeted by abusers to gain silence and compliance of victims, how witnessing animal abuse can impact children and may lead to violent behavior, what the research tells us about this Link, and what medical professionals can do to help.
Allie Phillips is the Founder & CEO of Sheltering Animals & Families Together, the first and only global initiative helping domestic violence shelters to create on-site pet housing. She is a former prosecuting attorney who worked at the National District Attorneys Associations as the Director of the National Center for Prosecution of Animal Abuse and Deputy Director of the National Center for Prosecution of Child Abuse. She has been educating criminal justice and medical professionals on animal abuse, family violence and how they link since 1997. She is a published animal protection author, travels worldwide to educate on animal abuse and family violence, and volunteers extensively to help animals and vulnerable victims.
