Episode 9: From Cowboys to Boogie NYC in the 70’s

Cinema Sounds & Secrets

Midnight Cowboy (1969) and Saturday Night Fever (1977)

Two very different tales of New York from two very different filmmakers show us the dramatic change in the decade we know as the great cultural revolution in America’s 20th Century, the 1970’s.  The anti-heros are night and day, the music couldn’t be more radically at odds, yet both are masterpieces, so much so that they are in the Library of Congress; one is #43 on the AFI all-time great movie list, the other has the 2nd highest selling soundtrack of all time and the 3rd highest grossing dance movie ever –.  The other, the first x-rated film to win the best picture Oscar…Do I have your attention? Any guesses?   I know someone dying to answer… my producer extraordinaire and wingman,  actor and cinephile, John, Schwab, and it looks like he might know…so let’s go the movies.
