As a dietitian and health coach, I get a lot of questions about how much protein one should consume, so I wanted to record this solo podcast to share some insight with you. Interestingly, I hear from people on both sides of the protein-eating spectrum: there are those who try to consume as much protein as possible, while others limit their intake. No matter where you are in your protein-consumption, there are some important things to know:
Protein makes up the building blocks of our organs, muscles, skin, and hormones; our body needs protein for healthy living and to maintain and repair tissues. Protein helps us meet our needs for the essential amino acids we need to get from food. Whether you eat meat or opt for a vegetarian or vegan diet, there are a variety of protein sources from which you can choose. Various life and health stages impact our need for protein.
