I am glad that early in my career, I became a plaintiff's lawyer and tried to make a difference. I left the lucrative career of defending big insurance companies in New York City and returned home to help ordinary people -- the people from the community where I grew up -- who might otherwise be cheated by the dirty tricks of insurance companies. 

Car accidents can be scary. You may wonder if you should call the police, especially if it's minor. But the truth is, you should always call the police after a car accident.



• First of all, it's the law. It Illinois, it's illegal to leave the scene of a car accident, even if it's minor. Leaving the scene of an accident could lead to a warrant being issued for your arrest.

• Secondly, the police can help assess the situation. This is their job; and they do it all the time. They can check to see if anyone is injured, even if they don't seem to be at first. They can also help direct traffic and prevent further accidents.

• The police can create a report of the accident. This report will include important information such as the date, time, location of the accident, as well as the names, addresses, and insurance information of all drivers involved. This report can be invaluable if you ever need to file an insurance claim or go to court.
