Despite what the world will have us believe Leadership is not about position or title, leadership is about the decisions and choices we make and ultimately it starts with how we lead ourselves everyday. How we deal with the difficulties, challenges, ups and downs that arise both personally and professionally and how we respond to them. Far too often we only see the end result, not the whole process which is why the podcast always starts with an origin story of my guest before we discuss topics such as business, culture, inclusion, equity, marriage and faith demonstrating leadership and explanations of how you can develop your leadership.

Everyday Leadership Shorts - Negative Side of Thriving on Change

“People need time, and space, for just reacting….to be able to think and process, before moving”
As spoken about in the last episode, change is inevitable and the one thing that is consistent in all life. Knowing this can help us navigate life, not get too attached and try to stay adaptable. But we don’t really talk about the steps that are needed for successful change.
Patience, time, and even mourning can provide the understanding and the smaller steps you can take to move towards this greater change. In today's Everday Leadership short, hear the alternative side of thriving on change, and how you can find the balance with the inevitable.

Everyday Leadership Shorts - Why We Focus On The Negative

Everyday Leadership Shorts - Why We Focus On The Negative

"Is this feedback true? Is this feedback helpful? Is it something I can do something with or is it something I need to let go off"

Feedback is something we ALL experience in some shape or form, some seek this out while others run and hide when feedback is offered. Regardless of what the feedback is, being able to step back, assess and then act, will position you in a place where feedback will become your friend.

Our brains are wired to spot the danger, the negativity and hone in on this compared to the more positive things. But similar to a computer, we can reprogramme our brains & understanding. So when you are faced with some feedback, remember to step back and ask yourself those 3 questions.

Questions to Ask Yourself as a Leader

Questions to Ask Yourself as a Leader

“If the crowd is not cheering for you and it makes you feel less than…who are you?

Who are you? What unique gifts are you bringing to the world? What traits make you, you?

Could you answer that without talking about your role, title or status? It can be easy to get caught up in the rat race, chase what we think success is and fall into the trap of thinking that's what life is. But what happens when that changes or life hands you an unknown route?

In this week's episode, Sope holds up a mirror to ourselves, asking critical and maybe uncomfortable questions about who we truly think we are. As we continue to shape and lead our people, it’s essential to be able to stop, assess and continue our own authentic development journey of what it means to be a leader - for you!

Leading with Impact, Joy and Purpose with “Aunty Skates” Oorbee Roy

"I was very unhappy, and I said, why am i doing this? Why am I living this life of maybe what i think is supposed to be successful?"
There seems to be a certain moment where we all stop, take a step back and assess if this is what we really want? Most of the time we are forced into this space, into this questioning of what we want life to be and what truly makes us happy.
It can be daunting to leave what you know to unlearn, relearn and create something new that gives you purpose, passion and joy in life. Yes, the opportunities are unknown but the journey of starting to live your authentic self is a great starting point.
In this weeks episode, Oorbee Roy takes us on the unexpected but thrilling exciting of finding yourself, living your purpose, and picking up a skateboard at age 43. Remember, you don’t need to know the end point or destination of life, but if you follow your inner direction and purpose, you’ll find yourself living and breathing the life you truly want.

    About "Aunty Skates" Oorbee Roy
Oorbee Roy is Toronto based designer, marketer, content creator, and skateboarder.  Four years ago, at the age of 43, she was inspired to take up skateboarding when my kids started. She didn't want to be the mom sitting there watching my whole family having fun, so she got on a board, took a couple of lessons, and immediately fell in love!

After building her career in computer science and engineering that took her from Bell Labs to Wall Street, Oorbee recognised that there was still something missing in her life. She took the plunge and started her journey to live a purposeful life, in her definition.

For anyone that’s afraid it’s too late for them to try the thing they always wanted to do, she’s here to tell you it’s never too late to live your best life! You can do it, Aunty believes in you!
