    Mad Max (1979)

    Mad Max (1979)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris head into the post-apocalypse (?) of 1979's Max Max to celebrate the 45th anniversary of George Miller's classic.  Miller's debut film, Mad Max is set in a dystopian Australia on the brink of societal collapse.  Mel Gibson stars as Max Rockatansky, one of the few remaining police officers trying to maintain law and order.  A sadistic motorcycle gang led by Toecutter (Hugh Keays-Byrne) becomes a thorn in Max's side when they first target his partner Goose (Steve Bisley) and then Max and his family.

The guys talk about how things seem OK for a world on the brink of collapse, how Goose becomes the main character for a large section of the movie, if Max and his wife Jessie (Joanne Samuel) are bad parents, the memorable climax where Max finally gets Mad and more.

You can watch Mad Max on Prime Video [https://amzn.to/3Q2CClj], Tubi, and PlutoTV.  Next week we're talking about the 90s spin on Most Dangerous Game, Surviving the Game for its 30th anniversary.

    Walking Tall (2004)

    Walking Tall (2004)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris pull out some 2x4s and deal out some vigilante justice to talk about 2004's Walking Tall, which just celebrated its 20th anniversary.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson stars as Chris Vaughn, a Special Forces soldier who returns to his hometown in hopes of working at the town's cedar mill like his father.  Chris finds that the mill has been closed since he's been away and a sleazy casino is the town's main source of revenue, run by his rich childhood friend Jay Hamilton (Neal McDonough).  After a vicious altercation with the casino's security staff leads Chris left for dead and his nephew almost dies from crystal meth sold out of the casino, Chris first mets out some vigilante justice before he gives an impassioned speech at his court trial and gets elected sheriff, vowing to clean up the town.  Zach and Chris discuss the casino's strange mix of gambling and strip club, Cobie Smulders' silent cameo, Johnny Knoxville's running comedy, how the movie feels earlier than previous Rock movies like The Rundown or The Scorpion King, and more.

You can watch Walking Tall on Max and next week we're heading into the wasteland to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the original Max Max.

Everything Action Commentary: Road House (1989)

Everything Action Commentary: Road House (1989)

To celebrate the release of the new Road House on Amazon this week, Chris, along with special guests Justin and Addam watched the original 1989 Road House for the latest Everything Action Commentary.

Starring Patrick Swayze as America's greatest bouncer, Dalton, he's hired to try and clean up the Double Deuce, a bar where "they sweep up the eyeballs at the end of the night".  While training a crew of bouncers to make the bar safer, Dalton runs afoul of local businessman Brad Wesley (Ben Gazzara), who is terrorizing businesses like the Double Deuce to try and drive them out of business so he can build a massive shopping complex.

While watching the movie, the guys talk about what it's like for Justin to see the movie for the first time, what genre the movie should fall into, how Dalton's NYU philosophy degree helps him fight, it's similarities to Footloose, Dalton's ridiculous barn loft and more.

You can watch Road House on Prime Video [https://amzn.to/3x1jP3f] or Max [https://play.max.com/movie/a93af03d-6423-4915-bc20-546abdd63f74] and watch along with the Everything Action crew.

    Children of the Corn (1984)

    Children of the Corn (1984)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris head into the cornfield to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Children of the Corn, which originally hit theaters on March 9th, 1984.

One of several 80s adaptations of Stephen King works, Children of the Corn stars Peter Horton and Linda Hamilton as Burt and Vicky, a couple driving to Seattle who get waylaid in Nebraska when they accidentally run over a boy named Joseph who stumbles out of the cornfield outside of Gatlin.  Looking for a phone to get help and contact the authorities, Vicky and Burt find that Gatlin has been taken over by a cult of children led by Isaac (John Franklin) that worships a demonic entity called "He Who Walks Behind the Rows".

Zach and Chris talk about the ebb and flow of quality for Stephen King adaptations over the years, Burt's hilarious reprimanding of the kids of Gatlin, what the kids need with hundreds of gallons of corn-based fuel, Malachi dragging Vicky all over town for most of the movie, the differences in the new reboot that released last year and more.

Next week the guys are watching True Lies in honor of the James Cameron classic finally arriving on 4K (along with Aliens and The Abyss)

    Dune (1984)

    Dune (1984)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, the Spice must flow as Zach and Chris talk about David Lynch's Dune as we prepare ourselves for Dune: Part Two in theaters.  Starring Kyle Maclachlan, in his film debut, as Paul Atreides, the movie attempts to condense Frank Herbert's sci-fi epic into just slightly over two hours instead of the luxury of two, almost three hour movies like Denis Villeneuve has had.

The guys talk about how memorable Sting is despite not really doing anything, the disgusting, bumbling Harkonnens, giant space slugs, the super condensed final act, the constant whispering voiceover, battle pugs, and more.  You can watch David Lynch's Dune on Max (which is also where you can see Dune: Part One if you need a refresher before Part Two).

Next week the guys are talking about the Stephen King adaptation Children of the Corn as it celebrates its 40th anniversary.
