Episode 140: Slow Living in a Big City - Paris Edition

Episode 140: Slow Living in a Big City - Paris Edition

As a solo, I love living in a big city. City living does have many benefits- access to an energizing social scene, loads of job opportunities, proximity to museums, clubs, theatre, and more, all right outside your door.

But with those city benefits, come drawbacks. Cities naturally have a fast pace of life, and there is the rather constant noise of traffic and course, a concentration of people. These drawbacks can take a toll on our mental and physical health, leaving us feeling overwhelmed and stressed out if we don’t bring slow living into our city lives.

In this episode, I share tips for slowing living in the big city including:

the importance of finding green spaces to enjoy and the fascinating daily habits of French people regarding nature and what we can apply to our own lives the role mindfulness plays in maintaining peace within yourself despite a chaotic environmenthow to prioritize activities and social invitations so you avoid burnout and fatiguewhy reducing your commitments to activities can help you find authentic connectionideas for converting your living space after the kids move out or a major life change and how environment impacts slow living

Find your joie de vivre in the big city!

Episode 138: What Living In Paris Taught Me About Slow Living

Episode 138: What Living In Paris Taught Me About Slow Living

Slow living is intentional, real, and simple living which includes all aspects of our lives. This episode shares lessons I’ve learned about slow living since moving to Paris and includes tips on how to embrace slow living in our homes including:

#1 Being creative with smaller spaces and less things. I will share good suggestions on how to rethink your spaces when you want to embrace the slow living movement as well as the value of consignment shops and brocantes (second-hand markets).

#2 Having a social community in close proximity to where you physically live. We need people, a tribe, and when you no longer have a work tribe, it becomes even more important that you have the first-tier social tribe around you.

#3 Entertaining. Fling open the doors to your home and welcome your outside life in! Entertaining pulls back the curtain of realness, an authenticity that is at the core of slow living, and deepens many of your surface friendships.
