Exuberance Is Beauty is a fiction podcast set in 1940s Oregon. Based on the book by the same name [by Donna Barrow-Green], this literary podcast is akin to a scripted audio book and retains the depth and breadth of the novel. The story follows a fallen woman and the man obsessed with her. Vacillating between desire and fear, the story unfolds in escalating suspense.

Amazon Reader writes:
"A Searing Tale - 5 Stars-This is a socially important and poignant tale of a war widow's seduction. She is impregnated and then abandoned by a clinically slick and selfish bastard, a married man without conscience. As the book moves on, I hoped he had done his worst, I hoped he would move on to other conquests. But he kept coming back."

Story:
Eve Miller, a young war widow, rebels against the ordinariness of womanhood in the post-war era. Eve is enlightened as she succumbs to the sensual temptation of an adulterous affair. In its aftermath, Eve Miller's life unravels and leads to unexpected violence and moral isolation. Exuberance Is Beauty, is a contemporary interpretation of Adam and Eve's biblical allegory and Eve's fall into desolation. The story examines the consequence of erotic obsession and the repentance the female protagonist must pay for her sins of the flesh. Exuberance Is Beauty has been described as "an intense psychological thriller," "hauntingly beautiful," and "terrifying."

New fiction podcast. Love and loss in 1940s Oregon. A love affair turns deadly when an obsessive man is forsaken.
Exuberance Is Beauty is a unique fiction podcast that blends intense drama with audio soundscape immersion. This show is for those who love deep, escalating plots lines and complex characters. This podcast is for listeners drawn to stories of victims of tragic circumstance (Blanch Dubois, Francis Farmer) and social commentary (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Gaslight).

"This story is intense! The time period is 1940s and the setting is Oregon. The main character, Eve, is whisked away to the middle of nowhere to have her illegitimate baby by a married man who seduced her. When he finds out about the child, he starts terrorizing her. He is a classic sociopath, sucking her in and manipulating her. His character infuriated me, and the author did a great job of provoking strong emotions from this reader. At one point, Eve even ends up in a mental hospital. That section of the book was of great interest to me. The ending of this story was perfect, in my opinion. It was realistic and matched the story itself. I love the way the author pulled it all together, and gave us a terrifying glimpse into the mistreatment of women in the 40's and the utterly disgusting way mental health systems were run. The author's writing was beautiful, despite the dark and intense nature of the story. The characters were well-drawn and the story immensely powerful. Looking forward to reading more from this author. Definitely a 5 star read."

Fantastic audio drama

I didn't expect to find an audiodrama like Exuberance Is Beauty. I wasn't sure what to expect when I read that it was an adaptation of a novel. I was worried it would be slow and boring. It wasn't. The pace is different than most fiction podcasts as those are typically science fiction or paranormal. This story is like walking into the world of literature--if you could somehow listen in on the lives of literary characters-if that makes sense. I love the acting (you can tell theses are talented professionals) and the developing relationship between Eve, Frank, and Mary. I also love the details of daily life in the 1940s (the old telephones, tractors, the quiet solitude of the days without smartphones and constant media). The sound effects make for such a rich immersive experience. I especially like the rural soundscapes as Mary and Eve walk through the orchards or the fields. I highly recommend this story and if you love the narrative of audio books/ novels and the multi-dimensional experience of podcasts you'll really like this show.

love this beautiful literary podcast!

i found exuberance is beauty after binging the diarist in two days. the same group produced both of these shows with many of the same voice actors. this show is different from the diarist and offers a literary take on fiction podcasting. i haven’t read the series of novels the show was based on but i understand the story turns dark and terrifying. i’m waiting for the new episodes to drop as i can’t wait to find out what happens. there is so much talent on this show from professional actors, excellent writing, and a realistic soundscape. i truly love this show.
