On this episode of the Q’d Up Podcast on Podcasting, Matthew Stevens and John Luckenbaugh talk about all the most recent podcast industry news, and it’s been a busy few weeks.
Facebook and Squadcast launched some major new features that make podcast creation and discoverability easier while Apple did the exact opposite with their newest Apple Podcasts app update. John and Matt provide some insight on what it all means for independent podcasters right now and what it could mean for the industry as a whole in the near future.
Show highlights:Facebook launches live rooms and podcast integration (2:53)
Facebook has finally launched its podcast features, integrating with Spotify, as well as live rooms similar to Clubhouse. However, only a few select podcasts are allowed onto the platform right now. John and Matt break down some of the podcasts you’ll find on Facebook now, what features Facebook is giving podcast creators, why they’re taking it slow, and how this could help your podcast discovery.
SquadCast 4.0 launches (10:18)
Podcast hosting platform SquadCast has launched a serious update to their platform that makes podcasting even easier to do. With features like 1-click mastering, Dolby.io and spatial audio functionality, and 10 users in a session; SquadCast has stepped up in a big way. Matt and John break down each of the features and just how useful they’ll be to most podcasters.
Podcast listener breakdown (19:04)
Nielsen, the famous ratings group, ran their own study to find out how often people listen to podcasts and the results are interesting. They found that listeners can be broken down into three groups – light, medium, and heavy podcast listeners – depending on just how many shows they consume every month. Matt and John discuss the findings and how a huge uptick of light listeners could point to another influx of newcomers to podcasting.
Apple Podcasts app update goes wrong (23:10)
Apple recently updated their podcasts app and it created far more problems than it solved. John and Matt talk about the various problems users are complaining about and wonder if Apple really cares about podcasts.
