If you were asked to identify yourself in one word, what would it be? Parent? Spouse? American? If you’ve accepted Christ as your Savior, then that one word should be Christian. The late E.V. Hill, then-pastor of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles, preached apowerfulsermon at a 1992 Promise Keepers event in Boulder, Colorado. In it, he reminds us of the truth of 1 Peter 2:9 which says, We are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession. In other words, our identity is in Jesus Christ.

A key component of a healthy marriage is the ability to humbly apologize. Unfortunately, few of us are very good at that. Dr. Gary Chapman, author ofThe Five Languages of Apology, asked thousands of people, When someone is apologizing to you, what do you want to hear them say or do? Top answers included: express regret, accept responsibility, make restitution, genuinely repent, and request forgiveness. 2 Corinthians 7:10 says, Godly sorrow brings repentance.

As an impressionable boy, Danny Silk witnessed his mother consecutively invite at least 30 men to live with them. Her poor example contributed to a crisis of confidence in his eventual marriage, as he came to believe that love and fear equally inhabit all relationshipsbut he learned one ultimately casts out the other.

Raised by a passive single mom, Danny Silk learned to be passive as a young adult. His wife, Sheri, was raised with six brothers and became a dominant personality, learning to yell and get angry in order to be heard. It became a combustible mix for the first 12 years of the Silk’s marriage. As with many couples, Danny had a deep need to be respected and Sheri had a deep need to be loved.

For young children, love is spelled T-I-M-E, so without a father in the home it can be traumatic. John Smithbaker, founder of Fathers in the Field, experienced the forgiveness of Christ at the age of 40, and was empowered to forgive his earthly father for abandoning him as a child. His Christ-centered mentoring ministry urges the Church to play a role much like the Good Samaritaninstead of walking by fatherless boys left on the cultural roadside, to find willing Christian men to invest time in their lives.

Wisdom from Dr. Dobson helped us raise 4 children!

I used to listen to Dr. Dobson, thirty years ago, every morning on a radio that sat on top of my refrigerator! I had four small children and we lived in a tiny fixer-upper with an old wood stove which we sat near, ate our oatmeal and I listened diligently to the wisdom of Dr. Dobson. My husband and I both came from divorced, broken homes and we wanted our children to have a completely different upbringing than ours. We wanted them to know the love of Jesus and the hope found in following His ways, amid a culture that tossed precious children aside. We decided to homeschool and found the Awana program that encouraged our biblical values. And we made sure they learned music because God made our hearts to praise Him in this manner. Well, after living through the Cedar fire burning our home of 17 years, and an unstable 5 years, we finally rebuilt and our family breathed a big sigh of relief! Our oldest son went on a short term mission with YWAM and became a loving PA who works with immigrants and helps everyone. My daughter and her family are soon moving to Erbil, Iraq, to serve at a vibrant international church there. Our next son and his family are a sweet addition to the military families and want a big family! Our last son was an exchange student twice, speaks Mandarin and German, plays awesome violin and
attends a small loving church nearby his apartment. We’re still praying for his believing spouse, as Dr. Dobson suggested those years ago. Nearing the retirement years my husband and I began to serve on short-term missions in China and Cambodia, and hosted exchange students. We have learned that a Christian family is truly God’s treasure on earth! We’ve relied on God’s mercy to bring us through the challenging
situations we’ve experienced and we’ve prayed
3 John hundreds of times. It reads, “I have no greater joy than my children walk in the Truth.”
Diligent prayers with lots of humility helped us raise our children to love God and serve Him with a whole heart. Thank you so much, Dr. Dobson, for your faithfulness to help out families like ours!
May God bless you and keep you and His face shine upon you!
Sincerely, Donna Bolz

Dr. Dobson

I’ve listened to Dr. Dobson since the early 80s as the father of three baby boys, then. Now I listen with 5 grandchildren in mind. I was a divisional president of a large secular company that I retired from recently, and often quoted Dr. Dobson at the end of presentations to large audiences, “For I have concluded that the accumulation of wealth is an insignificant reason for my living, etc......”
