During the so-called Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration, Englishman Robert Falcon Scott departed for the most Southerly continent. He aimed to reach the South Pole. On a broader scale, humanity hoped to reach the most Southerly point on Earth for the first time in history. Both accomplishments were achieved though not as Scott envisaged.
