An hour of some more really smooth progressive and melodic house. “afterthought” part 2, if you will.

90 minutes of what it would sound if Blonde, OutKast, J-Kwon, Daft Punk and Deborah Cox all hung out at Output (RIP).

Last night - Wednesday morning - my country collectively decided to elect into office a racist misogynist with selfish ideals unlike anything we've ever seen in our government. All day Wednesday I felt equal parts gutted, angry and depressed - worried that we'd be soon be erasing decades of progress that would affect me and those around me I love. All thanks to someone I believe to be the worst major party nominee in modern American history.
Without going into deeper politics, what I took away from the 2016 US election is that we tend to associate ourselves as humans with others who share most of our beliefs. By doing so we set ourselves up for a nasty wake-up call, realizing how many of our neighbors do not share them. In this particular case, these are not simply beliefs, but basic human rights that now seem to have the potential to be revoked.
We must stand together, we must be vigilant, and we must not for a second doubt or be afraid of what makes us unique.
So tonight I decided to cope with the best artistic medium I know, and pulled together a hodge podge of tracks that are currently making me happy. It's very unlike any podcast episode I've ever recorded, and I wouldn't be surprised or offended if it's the worst thing you've ever heard. This one was for me, and it worked wonders.

I said something to it on Twitter earlier this year, but tia is not just a mixshow podcast to me. A lot of craft, curation and love goes into the show. There are never any track repeats across episodes, and to that end I try to play only tracks that mean something to me, or at least have a good memory associated to it. If it doesn't (and it's just a really good tune), just putting it in the show does that nicely.
I give tia episodes a lot of afterthought too. During the sequencing and mixing step, there's always some other track that upon first glance I never thought to use, well after the mix is where I want it to sit. I toss it in, and suddenly it clicks far better than I thought it could. I can't take it out now, otherwise it seems incomplete.
In our first studio episode in over a year, which brings the tempo down to the low 120s, the track that did it for me was the final one.

Woah, déjà vu. Haven't recorded a decent set since last year, at this same event no less! All the same it's good to be back. Again. (again.)
A bit of a wild night, and I was glad to be able to dig deep into my library for a few clubbier records. Dat JOYRYDE tho. I also couldn't help but drop in a couple brand-new edits of mine, including "Voulez-Deux" - based off a Mark Knight tune which clearly needed even more ABBA even after getting stuck in my head on a Memorial Day weekend trip to Vegas.
Major shouts to Keith for working his magic on this live recording, and Max for his stupefying good ability to operate a camera.

I was invited to fill an empty slot at a dance that happens nightly at this little art convention that happens every summer. All things considered it was a killer night, playing some groovy tunes on a Saturday night. This is the live recording straight from the board, and I liked it so much I decided to use it as an episode of the show.
Many thanks to Spikeo for his photography and Keith for making it sound like I'm back in that space again, only in your living room.
